If you are moving a long distance from your current home, there’s a lot to consider. Long-distance moves are much more involved than a local move and they can be intimidating. You already have many things on your mind when planning an interstate move. Choosing a moving partner you can trust shouldn’t be one of them. Before hiring a moving company to help you cross state lines, here are a few basic questions to ask. These will help you verify their status as a reputable company with experienced moving crews.

Do they have operating authority?

Licensed interstate moving companies are held to a higher standard than local movers by federal and state regulations. As a licensed Atlas Agent for long-distance moves, Bisson has complete operating authority from the United States and Canadian governments to operate in all states and provinces. This means that we have permission to transport your items from one state to another.

Are they registered and insured?

Companies that provide long-distance moving services are required by law to carry specific insurance policies. These offer extra protection for both you and your belongings throughout the long journey to your destination. In addition, they should be hold a current registration with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to legally transport household goods over state lines and a unique identifier from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).  The USDOT number tracks audits, compliance reviews, inspections, and other safety data and should be readily provided upon request. Ask Bisson to see our documentation any time.

Do they carry any certifications?

Every Atlas Agent is a Certified Pro Mover, a distinction earned as a member in good standing with the  American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA).
Bisson’s Certified Moving Consultants are also certified through AMSA. This demonstrates competency and adherence to an ethical code of conduct within the industry.
